Edinburgh Woollen Mill – Buxton Derbyshire

On walking into my local EWM shop I can happily say I was more than surprised.

I pass by every day, see the collection of nighties in the window and carry on walking, believing that EWM is ‘what it says on the tin’ – a shop full of conservative knitwear.  Does that sound slightly derogatory?  I don’t mean it to.

Once I had walked past the nighties and fleeces there was an abundance of knitwear in many, many shades and hues; chunky knits and finer cashmere. If you love cashmere, like me, you can pick up some very good items here. In store at the moment is a rich teal roundneck jumper for £49 and many of the finer, softer cashmeres are reduced from £100 to £40.  On searching further I discovered interesting wraps and some gorgeous little knitted jackets ranging from £21 to £60 that are not dissimilar in effect to a Hobbs garment.  I think the key to shopping here is to keep an eye on the richness of the colour and the quality of the yarn. Some garments are what I would call ‘sedated’ but a few are quite a la mode.  I think you might be impressed.

Minimo – Buxton Derbyshire

I have spent many a happy hour in this shop; to me it is a real jewel, full of interesting designs.  Minimo stocks a number of labels; Sandwich Vero Moda, Great Plains, Noa Noa, B-Young, Bohemia and Fransa.

By ‘mixing up’ these labels, putting a little Noa Noa with a little Great Plains,  it is possible to achieve quite a creative look and find out who you really are.  The staff are always on hand to give an opinion and if you go in often enough they will begin to recognize  your personal likes and dislikes; very useful when you are short on time.

Prices, I think, are affordable. After all, if you are shopping here I think you are after a ‘find’ not just a piece of casual day wear.  Minimo encourages you to fall in love  with your clothes. Many of the clothes that I have loved for years have been purchased in Minimo. Here is a gorgeous picture of Kate, a lovely, stylish lady who shops in Minimo.  I took her photo as she looks very ‘colour me beautiful’!
